Current News
31/7/08 - Removal of Carp at Publow lake
Work has begun on removing the carp from Publow lake. The area of the lake where the stream enters is being netted off in order to provide a holding area. Any member who catches a carp is requested to place it into this netted area. It is vitally important that the poles which support the nets are not tampered with. The work is expected to take a week or so to complete.
22/7/08 - River Wellow
This is a request for information as to how the Wellow has been fishing. Although many members are fishing the Wellow, we haven't any reports from anglers. If you have fished the Wellow recently then please contact Keith Caddick and tell him how you got on, good, bad or indifferent. We would like to put any information onto the website.
18/7/08 - Publow Working Party
I would like to say a big thank you to the members who turned up at Publow on Wednesday evening. A good job was done and the flow of water into the lake is now restored.
26/6/08 - Water level in the lower Chew
As previously mentioned, the club protested to the EA about the loss of water level from the weir at Stanton Drew through to Bye Mills. We have received a reply from the flood defence section of the EA, which is disappointing to say the least. If this isn't bad enough the EA is also looking at removing the sluice at Stanton Drew weir itself. The likely result of this action is that there would be a significant reduction in the depth of water from the weir all the way back to the outfall from Chew Valley lake and, in all probability, effectively signal the end of the lower Chew as a viable fishery. Read the letter in full here...
22/6/08 - Report on the first Club Competition of the year
Twenty members arrived at CMR this morning to participate in the first club competition of 2008. The weather gods were not kind to us, as a strong wind straight down the centre of the reservoir made fishing difficult from most pegs. This was further compounded with the arrival of bright sunshine. Full report here...
13/6/08 - Ackers Pool
The committee is pleased to announce that the lease for Ackers Pool has been agreed for the 2009 season.
11/6/08 - Water level in Lower Chew
The club has protested most strongly to the E.A concerning the loss of water depth and our potential fishing from the weir at Stanton Drew through to Bye-Mills. We have written a strongly worded letter to both the Fisheries and Flood Defence sections but as yet we have received no reply. It is also noted that the farmers with land bounded by the river have also taken action to address the problem. We will keep you informed as events unfold.
3/6/08 - Signing in prior to fishing
Members are reminded that it is a club rule that they must sign the return sheet before they start fishing. This small act helps make the bailiffs' job a little easier as they carry out their duty. Remember that the bailiffs are volunteers from the membership and by helping them we are all playing a part in tackling poaching.
It should also be noted that the return sheets provide the information that formulate the club's stocking policy. So as well as fish taken and fish returned being recorded, it is important that nil fish is also recorded.
